WEST BYRON MEGADEVELOPMENT

IT'S NOT A DONE DEAL

1.3 KMS OF CONCRETE WALL?

The mega development proposed to use public road reserve to build an acoustic wall, an eyesore for visitors and locals alike. The wall made of concrete from 4-6 metres high, 1.3 kilometres in length, along Ewingsdale Road will detract from the important visual appeal of the town’s entrance from the north.

Villa World have listened to the community and replaced the wall with a landscaped 30m setback from the public road. This will significantly reduce the visual impact. Though Site R&D are unrepentent.

  • Site R&D PTY LTD wants a wall 4 metres (2 metre concrete on a 2 metre high mound). extending 6 metres of Byron’s Shire Council’s road reserve, rather than use their own land.
  • They want their private works to extend 6 m or more onto the public road reserve. This wall and vegetation buffer should be completely on their own properties. The road reserve is for Byron Bay’s own future needs as a town. This should not be decided by private developers.
